It has been an incredible Summer for ‘colchonero’ fans and today another signing was confirmed. The RCD Espanyol defender Mario Hermoso has completed a move to Madrid, where he will be another piece to add to Simeone’s defense. Hermoso signed for 5 seasons, for €25M, plus €5M more if he fulfills the objectives traced.

Hermoso played 59 games last season – 54 in La Liga and 5 in Copa del Rey. Even though he is a center-back, he has scored 4 goals and was one of the key pieces in the Catalan team. A versatile player, who was already called to the Spain national team, Mario can play as a left centreback or as a left-back.

Atletico seems eager to renew their defensive backline after several players who were part for the team for a long time, left this Summer. Diego Godin, who is 33, signed with Inter Milan and World Cup winner Lucas Hernandez moved to Munich, with Bayern paying €80M for him. Besides, Filipe Luis finished his contract and might also move to his home country Brazil, to play with Flamengo.

For their positions, besides Hermoso, Atletico signed Kieran Trippier, Tottenham’s fullback and Renan Lodi, left-back from Atletico Paranaense. Also, they signed Felipe, experienced defender, who played for Porto during the last two seasons.

Add to these the signings of Hector Herrera and Marcos Llorente for midfield positions. Plus, the record signing of €120M for Joao Felix, who will have the job to fill the boots of Antoine Griezzman.

You might be wondering who they will sign next. This can be an incredible next season for Atletico or a massive flop if all these players are not cooperative to work under El Cholo Diego Simeone.
